Alter ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
We collect minimal information necessary to provide our service:
- Usage Data: Anonymous statistics about app usage (sessions completed, listening time)
- Voice Recordings: When you choose to record a reflection, the audio is stored locally on your device
- Name (optional): If you provide your name in settings, it's stored locally on your device
What We Don't Collect
- We do not collect your email address unless you contact us
- We do not track your location
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties
- We do not use advertising or analytics trackers
Apple Music
Alter uses Apple Music to stream songs. Your Apple Music subscription and listening data are governed by Apple's privacy policy. We do not have access to your Apple Music account credentials or listening history outside of Alter.
Data Storage
Your personal data (name, recordings) is stored locally on your device. Session progress is synced with our servers to enable features like streaks, but this data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you.
About Offerings
When you submit an Offering through the Make an Offering page, we collect the email address you provide, your optional name and city, the song you choose, and the recording or text you provide as your reflection.
If we feature your Offering as a daily session in Alter, your audio (or text) will be played to other Alter users on that day. Your name will be shown only if you provided one and we have confirmed with you by email.
If your Offering is not featured, your submission stays in our private editorial queue. We retain it for up to two years to support our editorial process and then delete it, unless you ask us to remove it sooner.
To request deletion of a submission at any time, email [email protected] with the email address you used to submit. We will remove the audio and the record within 7 days.
We do not sell or share submission data with third parties.
